Holiday Savings Tips
12/05/2023
The holiday season is a time of joy, celebration, and gratitude. But it can also be a big cause of financial stress. Traveling funds, party hosting and spending on gifts can add up quickly. In trying to have a happy holiday, we can very quickly break our own budgets. Here are a few quick tips on holiday spending and saving to have a stress-free, happy holiday.
- Start planning early. The more time you have to find the best deals, the more likely you are to avoid last-minute splurges. Spreading out your spending over several months can also help you avoid draining your account in December.
- Make a set budget for everything you might be doing this holiday season. If you’re travelling to see family, make sure you allocate money for gas, plane tickets, etc. Hosting a party or two? Have a set budget for food and beverages.
- Make a list of everyone you plan on getting gifts for and assign a budget to that person.
- Keep an eye out for coupons and deals throughout the month. Many retailers have extended sales and many have price match availability.
- Shop secondhand or refurbished. Many places sell refurbished or open box electronics for way cheaper than retail price.
- Homemade gift go a long ways. Don't be afraid to bake, make your own ornaments, etc. Something homemade can be truly special.
- Shop local. Show local business owners some gratitude and get your loved ones a unique gift.
- Holiday Loans may be a good option for some extra spending cash if you need it. At FCCU we have a Christmas loan special right now. See details here.
The best way to truly celebrate Christmas is to remember that it’s not about how much money you spend, or about having an abundance of homemade food, but instead it’s about the importance of gratitude. Christmas reminds us to pause our busy lives and spend quality time with our loved ones.
From our family to yours, we wish you a very Merry Christmas!
